Hallway Inspiration

I know we've been in our 'new' home for over a year now, but we still haven't got round to 'furnishing' our hallway. I say 'furnishing' in as much as zhushing it, as it seems weird (although it shouldn't do) to talk about a hallway like that. So often the hallway gets overlooked (as in our case) in favour of the other more important rooms like the family room, kids playroom/bedrooms etc.

Our hallway is a difficult space to work with as it is quite wide and has an open study on one side and a kids playroom on the other (also open to the hallway with no doors), it's very open plan, and its an open thoroughfare (again no door) to the kitchen and family room at the back of the house. So, it's not an easy place to put furniture, especially with two small children who like to ride their scooters up and down it and generally treat it like a race track.  So, with that in mind, I have found some inspiration on the web, and have decided to 'furnish' it, in some sort of highly practical and child friendly (but still stylish) way that hopefully exhibits my personality and blends with all the connecting areas/rooms downstairs in the house!  (now you can see why it's been empty over a year! ha!)....

I love this image found via Greige Design because we have the exact same useable wallspace in our hallway with the stairs running down the left side and the open doorway to the back rooms of the house and this shows you can still make that small area really warm and full of personality. Love those 'nest' egg pictures, and the hint of the room beyond and of course the lovely classic staircase...

I love the beams and flowing drapes and texture in this next one - I have just put some linen drapes in our hallway to cover the front door...

It's a bit easier when you have great bones and period features on your side too...

the stark white sparkles against the warm timber here, and I love the feature pendant light. I have one for the void in our stairwell but it's far more rustic than this one...

and lovely bead board and some beach hats (which I happen to have, the hats, not the bead board)...
I have sand on the floor too, although it's not from the beach, as I suspect this is...(it's from Bunnings, via the kids sandpit) hmmm.
Love the textures in this, and the pom in me likes the Stamp image for some reason...

I love the calm coastal look of this and the texture of the driftwood...

I love this next one for it's rustic beach/travel vibe and the sneak peek of the bedroom beyond...

This monochromatic colour scheme is very soothing, and I love the prints and the green tree that keeps it fresh. I really want to stack some boxes or old suitcases in our hallway like this but I think the kids will probably have them down in seconds and fill them with their toys, or sand, or something...

I am definitely going to incorporate a gallery up our staircase wall (kids hands permitting)
Love these candle vases, alas I suspect they wouldn't last 5 minutes in our place. The warm colours and gallery walls are lovely too...

I like the beach vibe to this white scheme...and the lovely stable door

Love a comfy chair in a hallway too, I don't think we have room though ...The blue and linen cushions are similar to some I have too...and I am a sucker for baskets to store all the kids stuff in...

The blue hues of the pictures in this collected gallery are lovely and tie in nicely with the seafoam colour of the ceiling lamps beyond. I love the stone floor and the hint of other rooms down the corridor too...

I put this next one in because I love the light and the texture of all the timber. We have an old timber tallboy that we have decided to use in our hallway, it's been in storage 3 years, and that was a big waste, so I am making use of it because that's what it deserves having been one of the first pieces of furniture my husband and I ever bought and subsequently transported to the other side of the world with us...

  1. Love your inspiration images <3

I too am trying to get our entrance sorted out... But struggling :(
I just counted and there are 8 doors surrounding our foyer which means hardly any wall space :(

    1. Paint every door a different color, rich colors that all accent each other. Put plants like orchids on little skinny end tables in the spaces between the doors if there are any with simple pictures hanging on the wire from a nail above the picture frame. Encorporate different small round mirrors clustered together if there's any space between doors....stuff like that. :)

  2. Mmmm I think the stacked up boxes idea might work for our foyer. Of only I could find some amazing trunks at great prices :)
